So it’s been a while since I’ve written anything but during this festive season I thought it would be a good idea to put up this year’s Christmas card. Last year I thought it might be a good idea to design my own cards and put my over priced degree to good use. So continuing the tradition here is this year’s card. Loving Your Body October 12, 2010
For the three people who read this blog, please indulge me and if I bore you I apologize in advance.
I’ve struggled with my weight and body image nearly my entire life. As a kid I often remember hearing my mother ask “Are you sure you want to eat that?” or “I’m putting you on a diet”. During a time in the 8th grade this resulted in the Slim Fast Diet, my mother making me take shakes to school for lunch and giving me cardboard tasting low calorie food to munch on (low cal food has come a long way). I remember my 8th grade teacher Mr. Green having a fit when he saw me drinking a Slim Fast at the lunch table, which resulted in him bringing it to my mother’s attention at the school’s annual Halloween party. Needless to say she was none too pleased.
As a child I wasn’t the skinniest but I wasn’t obese either, that wouldn’t happen until I hit my 20’s. And while I definitely take the blame for my predicament it didn’t help that I came from a family that had absolutely no clue about healthy eating. My mother is a big fan of processed sugar and it was constantly on hand in our house growing up. We ate a lot of packaged and processed food with little intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. So this was my foundation on which my adult eating habits were formed. (more…)
Darfur for Dummies October 6, 2010
So my friend Andrew with the HPA, an awesome organization for which I dedicate my time to, recently sent us staff members a run down on Darfur and I found it to be the most comprehensive and uncomplicated explanation of the Darfur issue I’ve ever come across. I actually get it now. So with his permission I’ve decided to post it here on my blog, because the more we know about the issues that affect us the more effective we are as a society.
Civil War Between the North and South
Sudan is a giant country. For decades the North, run largely by Arab Muslims, and the South, run largely by black Christians, were engaged in one of the bloodiest wars in human history. The North is the center of military and economic power in Sudan, with the capital being Khartoum.
Then circa 2003 then President Bush helped broker a peace treaty between the North and the South. The treaty called for a ceasefire and the large-scale parts of the war were put to a halt. The South got all sorts of rights as part of the treaty. (more…)

So a few weeks ago I posted about interviewing with Apple, yeah well that didn’t amount to anything. I really thought the interview went well, I even knew the question to the difference between RAM and hard drive, but alas it appears it was all for naught. Gahhh, I can’t seem to find a part time job to save my life and the extra money would really come in handy, as it is desperately needed. (more…)
Apple August 16, 2010
So hello all….good news! I have a part-time job interview tomorrow with Apple. As much as I wish, it is not a job as a designer with Apple Corp up north (maybe someday), but it is a chance to get my foot in the door. Hopefully if all goes well I will be one of those super happy people in a a blue shirt (my signature color) extolling the wonders of all that is Apple.
I can already see it now, my paycheck will be spent on every gadget wonder available and in the end I will need a third job to support my 2nd job. So wish me luck or say a prayer and lets hope I knock it out of the park.
On a side note: Here is a little something I did today as a cheerful gift for my friend Julie…who is feeling a bit under the weather.
I’ve Been Remiss August 3, 2010
So it’s been a while since I’ve left any random thoughts or musings. And I don’t really have anything to say today, but I did do a logo for someone that I’ll share with you. A co-worker needed a logo for a marathon she is going to run and asked if I would design it for her. I don’t get paid for it, but she did say she’d pimp my name out to anyone who asked, and not one to poo pah on a fair trade I said no problem. So here it is, not much but hey even Monet had to start somewhere.
Rant of the Day July 2, 2010
I’m gonna rant, so for the two readers who kindly follow this blog, I apologize in advance. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m a soap fan, of one soap in particular actually, and that would be Days of Our Lives. Now I’ve been watching DOOL since the tender age of 9, when after visiting my grandmother for a summer she got me hooked and there was no turning back. The year was 1986 and even at the age of 9 I knew quality when I saw it; the quality wasn’t so much the soap itself, though the 80′s were the heyday of Days and it was produced and written well then. No, the quality I am referring to was a certain actress by the name of Deidre Hall. She played what would shortly become my favorite character in all of Daytime and was the other half of the best couple ever John and Marlena Black. (more…)
The Hunt is On June 23, 2010
So I am searching for a second job, as my current debt (thank you student loans) almost exceeds my monthly income. I find myself wondering where I’d be happy working. Hmmm happy working, an oxymoron if ever I have heard of one, especially when it’s a second job you’re referring to. But I digress, I’m looking into book stores and my ever favorite Apple store. Fast food is OUT…I’d have to be destitute to ever go back to fast food again. It appears that a Bachelors of Science in Graphic Design doesn’t really get me anywhere; I can’t even get a design job with my degree. (more…)
